SAARC and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) jointly
established the Regional Support Unit (RSU) in Kathmandu, Nepal, financially supported by European Commission (EC) with an overall objective of strengthening and empowering SAARC in its ability to prevent, control and or eradicate highly pathogenic and emerging diseases (HPED) including trans-boundary animal diseases, through improved veterinary and public health services and inter-disciplinary and inter-sectoral collaboration on a regional basis. One of the main mandates of the project being to build epidemiology capacity in the region, a three weeks regional FETPV for SAARC countries was initiated in November 2012 which was attended by l9 field veterinarians from five SAARC Members States.Following the success of the training programme in 2012 and as demanded by the member countries in various forums another training programme called as the „Second Regional FEPTV for SAARC countries‟ was planned for 2013 also. The training was organized by Regional Epidemiology Centre under Regional Support Unit for SAARC, FAO in collaboration with the Department of Livestock Services, Ministry of Agriculture Development, Nepal.
