International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict.

The UN General assembly proclaimed 19th June as the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict or in order to raise awareness of the need to put an end to conflict-related sexual violence and to honor the victims and survivors of sexual violence around the world and to pay tribute to all those who have courageously devoted their lives to and lost their lives in standing up for the eradication of these crimes.

The main event has highlighted the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) established that crimes of a sexual nature during wartime can be and must be publishable by international law. It highlighted the role of the two tribunals in prosecuting and adjudicating wartime sexual violence, inclusive of testimonies from witnesses and survivors.
