High Value Agriculture Project in Hill and Mountain Areas has now reached 12,033 households (89% of full project target of 13,500 hh) across 120 VDCs as of 15 Dec 2015. These households had already achieved an average increase in net annual income of over NPR,9000 (63% of full project target of NPR 30,000) as of Jul 2015,though it is recognized that not all of these increases in income should be attributed solely to HVAP. Given that the first of the Value Chain Fund (VCF) sub-projects to 336 producer groups and cooperatives were only begun around 2 years ago in Feb 2014, these existing impacts are already promising and can be expected to continue to grow as the sub-projects mature. Detailed discussions with numerous producer groups during the mission support this conclusion, where there appeared to have been further substantial increases in farm incomes in some value chains in the six months since these data were collected.
These impacts have been achieved through a total of 388 sub-projects under the various funds and facilities in the project, of which 342 sub-projects are directly with producer groups and cooperatives accounting for 83% of funds committed for all sub-projects. There have also been a number of successful investments under the Spatial Inclusion Fund, such as gravity rope ways and repairs to suspension bridges to increase market access in new pocket areas. There is a well developed pipeline of additional investments under the funds, many of which are likely to contribute to
important systemic changes in their respective VCs such as the slaughterhouse as well as wholesale markets and rent able cold storage facilities.
