Global Sanitation Fund Programme in Nepal : Annual Report 2014

The Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) is a multi-donor trust fund established by the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) to help large numbers of poor people to attain safe sanitation services and adopt good hygienic practices. According to the progress report of August 2014 from WSSCC , as of 1 July 2014, the Global Sanitation Fund supports work actively in Cambodia, Ethiopia,India, Madagasca, Malawi, Nepal, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda. In those countries, more than 140 sub-grantees have raised awareness of sanitation and hygiene nationally and in a number of regions. As a result of their work, more than three million people have access to improved toilets, among other leading indicators of progress.
The GSF Programme in Nepal was launched in October 2010 to assist the Government of Nepal in achieving its national target of 100% sanitation coverage by 2017. Under the strategic guidance of the National Sanitation and Hygiene Coordination Committee (NSHCC), and the leadership of local governments, UN-Habitat in partnership with local implementening partners, is executing the GSF programme in Nepal in 17 districts. Out these 17 districts three districts have achieved ODF status while remaining 3 are in the pipeline for ODF in 2015. This progress report is published by NSHCC and UN Habitat.
