Nepal- Reported Security Incidents Involving VDC and DDC Staff (Period Covered: 1 January - 31 July 2010)

During the first six months of 2010, two VDC secretaries were killed (Sitapur VDC in Banke, and Babarjung VDC in Sarlahi). In separate incidents in Danusha, a DDC staff member was killed and a child was killed during an attempt on the life of VDC Secretary. Two VDC Secretaries from Bara and a DDC staff from Humla were abducted. IEDs damaged VDC Offices in Mohammadpur VDC of Rautahat and Hasposa VDC of Sunsari. Similarly, IEDs were exploded at the homes of DDC/VDC staff in Guleria of Bardiya, Laxminia VDC of Rautahat, and Germi VDC of Nawalparasi. While Naubise VDC of Dhading, Diktel HQ of Khotang, DDC office located at Birgunj in Parsa, and at residence of Sirse VDC secretary of Udaypur district were targeted but the IEDs were later defused.
