In March and April 2009, TJSC called Bandh/Blockades had a significant impact on movement across Terai districts. In June, over 60 districts were affected by the UCPN-M affiliated Bandhs protesting the President’s decision to reinstate the Chief of Army Staff. In December, the three-day nationwide general strike called by UCPN-M had a severe impact on all movement across the country, including that of humanitarian and development organizations. In 2009, there were more than 140 days of Bandh/Blockade reported in one or more districts.
