Liquefaction is the tendency of the sediments to flow under high pore water pressure, e.g. when saturated sand is shaken by earthquake.Areas with negligible susceptibility to liquefaction even under high seismic shaking. Damage in case of earthquake will be low. Areas may liquefy under heavy seismic shaking, Damage in case of earthquake will appear only locally. Storage of hazardous materials need special protection.
