In January 2010, UCPN-M and Nepal People’s Front (Janamorcha Nepal Party) called bandh had a significant impact on movement across the Western, Central and Eastern Terai and some part of Far Western regions for more than 10 days. In May 2010, all 75 districts were affected by the 6-day UCPN-M nationwide general strike which had a severe impact on all movement across the country, including that of humanitarian and development organizations. There were 67 days of Bandh/Strikes reported in one or more districts over the six months period. The density of events – indicated by shading on the map – represents the total number of bandhs / blockades that have been observed, as reported to OCHA and the UN Department of Safety and Security. These include transportation blockades, and closures of customs offices, markets and businesses.
