Between 2006 and 2010, UNDP Nepal’s HIV Programme Management Unit (PMU) managed a large proportion on of the funds granted to Nepal for HIV prevention on, treatment and care. Between 2005/06 and 2011 UNDP Nepal and its PMU managed large grants from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM) and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). GFATM’s Round 7 Phase 1 HIV grant ended in February 2011 and the DFID grant ended in October 2011. The expertise of the PMU is now being used to manage procurement under Phase 2 of the Round 7 GFATM HIV grant (July 2011 to July 2012). The PMU is procuring antiretroviral drugs, drugs for treating sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and opportunistic infections, and HIV testing and laboratory equipment for the three Principal Recipients of this grant (NCASC, FPAN and SCUS).
