UNESCO invites all radio stations in Nepal to observe World Radio Day on 13 February 2012. The World Radio Day was established in 2011 to celebrate radio broadcast and its unique power to reach people in the remotest areas. It is an occasion to encourage the creation of more and better radio content and to provide access to information through radio, including community radios. “There are hundreds of radio stations in Nepal and we hope that they will use 13 February to celebrate their power. Radios have a crucial role in creating access to information in remote areas, especially in the mountainous regions where they are often the only media available”, says Axel Plathe, Head of the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu.
