Nepalese women are the poorest among the poor lacking access to resources. They need to be empowered to meet their daily needs and get actively involved in promoting their own social and political status. MEDEP model has been strongly recommended to adopt for their empowerment. This study was conducted to examine MEDEP's role in economic, social and political empowerment of women. In the study area, most of the entrepreneurs were landless, poor and uneducated. They were unemployed before taking up micro-enterprise. After their participation in MEDEP, their life has changed. This study has concluded that micro-enterprises can be a best solution for women by which they can generate income and increase their socio-economic status. Though the study was limited to a small group of women in rural village of Sunsari district, the findings have indicated that MEDEP has been successful in empowering women and alleviating their poverty by promoting micro-enterprises in the rural areas. MEDEP model, therefore, should be expanded to more areas and districts for empowering women.
