UN-Habitat launched the Water for Asian Cities (WAC) Programme in partnership with the Governments of Asia and the Asian Development Bank in 2003 at the Third World Water Forum and since then it has implemented numerous projects in the South Asia region in the areas of urban water demand management; integrated urban environmental sanitation; pro-poor urban water and sanitation governance; gender mainstreaming; community-based water and sanitation services and Human Values Based Water Education. As per its strategy of promoting private sector partnership in pursuance of its goals, UN-Habitat and Coca- Cola Company embarked upon a unique partnership programme in 2007 to improve access to safe water and basic sanitation facilities in schools in India.
