WUPAP is being implemented in three phases under the Flexible Lending Mechanism of IFAD with a loan effectiveness date of 01 January 2003, completion date of 31 March 2016, closing date of 30 September 2016, and is currently in its final Phase III. Phase I was completed in FY 2006/07 in four districts (Bajhang, Bajura, Humla and Jumla). Project coverage was extended in Phase II to ten districts (four Phase I districts, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Dolpa, Kalikot, Rolpa and Rukum) and was completed in July 2012. Phase III began in July 2012 and is working in eight districts (Bajhang, Bajura, Humla, Dailekh, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Rolpa and Rukum). The total budget for Phase III is USD14.82 million of which the IFAD Loan is USD 10.64 million (SDR 6.60 million). The goal of the project is to strengthen livelihood systems and basic human dignity amongst the poor and socially disadvantaged people in the mid- and far-western regions of Nepal; and improved living standard through sustained growth of employment, income and access to resources amongst the poor households in targeted areas.
