Ms. Dirga Kumari Rana, a single mother aged 60 years old is living with her two children. Her husband is living with his second wife, away from them. Ms. Rana told that when she was a child, in one accident she lost her 3 fingers. “It is already many years, I am used to working with this hand as well, but people are hesitant to give me work”, Ms. Rana added. She further said, “That is why there is a shortage of work for me. I sometimes get work in farmland but very irregular, the pay is also like not more than NRs 300 (USD 3) per day”. Apart from this, sometimes she makes money by selling fire woods in the market as well. She said, “Collecting fire wood is difficult, I have to travel far sometimes. It takes almost a day to collect fire wood that can be sold at NRs. 200 (USD 2) in local market”
