WFP undertakes food security analysis in close collaboration with partners worldwide including governments, FEWS NET, UN agencies such as FAO, OCHA, UNHCR, UNICEF, WHO and local and international NGOs. These partnerships ensure a shared understanding of food security problems and common priorities for action. Strong partnerships have also been established with the World Bank, the Norway Statistics Institute and the International Household Survey Network to share or collect data communally. More specifically, WFP and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) teamed up to provide access to global data on hunger and food insecurity. The data can be used to understand the type of food available in certain markets and how families cope in the face of food insecurity. The data is being made available through OCHA’s Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX), an open platform for sharing crisis data. WFP has been able to make large amounts of its data available dynamically, making it easier to integrate with other systems, including HDX. This is an important aspect of WFP’s broader initiative on Open Data and transparency.
