The Ghachok village development committee, which has scattered settlements and limited service providers, comprises a total of 550 households. Reaching the village especially in the rainy season is difficult because of the sloppy landscape and poor road connection. In 2002, School Sanitation and Hygiene Education (SSHE) program was introduced and implemented in the schools of the VDC, which resulted in enhanced knowledge on the importance of hygiene and sanitation among community people, school teachers and students. Although in a small scale, the schools and the community people continued hygiene and sanitation promotion activities, their monitoring, and a household survey on annual basis. Gradually in 2006, UNICEF introduced School Led Total Sanitation (SLTS) program in two schools of the VDC responding to the demand made by the community.
