Women have an equal role to play with men in building peace in Nepal. But so far this has too often not been the case. Women are under-represented in Parliament, Government, political parties, the civil service and the judiciary, and the leadership of civil society and movements from traditionally marginalised groups. Nepal is not fully utilising the country’s greatest asset, its people, in the huge national effort to build peace and transform itself into an inclusive, democratic society. It is essential that more women are brought into key roles in the peace process, from the national to the community level.
