Donor Update Influenza Pandemic: Update #5 (1st June 2009)

Highlights:
1. Medical teams at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) have been carrying out their function smoothly and all the logistics are in place. Altogether 19,6848 (12,594 Male and 7,254 Female) passengers from 373 flights have been screened so far.
2. Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) and Avian Influenza Control Project (AICP) are providing further requirement to the referral hospitals in order to make the hospital better equipped. All the required logistic as per SOPs are in place at the airport.
3. Surveillance activities continue in the Early Warning and Response System (EWARS) sites. Control Room at EDCD is working round the clock. EDCD and AICP are coordinating all the ongoing activities. Master Training of Trainer MToT on Influenza orientation, surveillance, outbreak investigation, risk communication, case management and infection prevention and control have been carried out in Biratnagar for five districts in Eastern Development Region.
