The radio programme was launched in April 2009 with the aim to provide reliable information to the general public on issues such as the peace process, development as well as socio-cultural and economic issues. It particularly tried to reach out to those from traditionally marginalised communities and the information-poor. During its time Radio Chautari has been a vital instrument to help build understanding and trust. The United Nations Country Team's radio program’s target was the vital intersection of 'peace' and 'development'. The radio programme, aimed to ensure that the important, longer- term peace-building agenda was not lost sight of, when attention more naturally was drawn to “Radio Chautari has addressed an important need over the last few years” said Robert Piper, UN Resident Coordinator. “It helped keep some attention on the long term transformational issues embedded in the peace agreement - issues that are normally crowded out by the short term urgent headlines of the day” he added. the visible urgent short term political priorities.
