The forum entitled Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia “Moving Faster from Policy to Practice” was attended by representatives from the Nepalese Government, representatives of eleven other Asian countries,representatives of six donor countries, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Commission, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the U.S. Senate, various non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and the Nepali diaspora. The aim of the meeting was to raise awareness on the importance of disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies, using Nepal as an example, and to provide donors with an opportunity to discuss ways to mainstream DRR into development programs.
