Conservation and Sustainable Use of Wetlands in Nepal (CSUWN) is a joint undertaking of the Government of Nepal/Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MFSC), Global Environment Facility (GEF), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and IUCN Nepal. Its main partners are the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) and Department of Forests (DoF). The goal of the Project is to ensure the maintenance and enhancement of wetland biodiversity and environmental goods and services for improved local livelihoods in Nepal. Its main objective is to strengthen national and local capacity on ecosystem management and sustainable use of wetland biodiversity in Nepal. The Project basically works to ensure the achievement of its three outcomes:
1. Wetland biodiversity conservation values integrated into national policy and planning framework
2. Institutional capacity strengthened for wetland conservation and sustainable use,
3. Collaborative management of wetland resources enhanced for conservation and sustainable livelihood.
Wetland project aims to address these gaps & issues to effect long term changes to the perception, value and understanding so that wetlands receive adequate attention from all. As a part of the regional knowledge sharing exercise and in line with the Annual Work Plan 2008, the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) and Wetland Biodiversity Specialist (WBS) The Project Executive Group (PEG) is composed of the NPD, ARR- UNDP, Director Generals from DNPWC and DoF and representative from IUCN. The first meeting of the PEG took place on 2 May 2008. It is responsible to take important executive decisions related to the project. The first meeting has made a number of decisions for project implementation. Specialist from PMU took part in the Asian Wetlands Symposium and presented papers from Nepal. There were 6 participants altogether from Nepal.
