UNMIN - Supporting Nepal's Peace Process

The United Nations Mission in Nepal is a special political mission established by the United Nations Security Council. Resolution 1740, to support the peace process in Nepal: in particular, to assist in the conduct of the Constituent Assembly election in a free and fair atmosphere. UNMIN began work on 23 January 2007 in response to requests by the Seven-Party Alliance Government and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). The Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Nepal, Mr. Ian Martin, is the head of UNMIN.
