Nepali law defines children as people below the age of 16 years while international law defines children as being under 18. Nepal ratified the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1990 and Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict in 2007, which means that national laws must meet these international standards. Defining under 18s as or that they are not capable of understanding politics. International law stipulates that all children have a fundamental right to express their opinions freely and to participate in process and decision that affect their future. However, the involvement of children in politics can lead to serious problems.
