In the year 2000, the World Health Assembly resolution WHA53.17, endorsed the global
strategy for the prevention and control of NCDs, with a particular focus on developing countries. Since then, many initiatives have been launched by WHO and other global players to control NCDs. The global commitment to prevention and control of NCDs was further strengthened with the adoption of the Political Declaration at the High-level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases by the Head of the States in September 2011 in New York in which Nepal is a signatory.
