A Study On The Socio-Economic Impact Of HIV/AIDS In Nepal

Since its first reported identification in 1981, AIDS, one of the frightening and deadly public health problems of this frightening and deadly public health problems of this century, had affected men, women and children worldwide. The etiologic agent of AIDS, the human immuno-deficiency virus(HIV) is transmitted through sexual relationship, direct control with infected blood and is transmitted through perinatally from mother to child, Many of the underlying modes of transmission of HIV are influence by socio-economic and human sexual behavior. Since its dectection in 1981 the number of persons infected with HIV throughout the global and those with full-blown AIDS cases have been increasing dramatically. One of the tragic aspects of AIDS phenomenon is that HIV virus can remain dormant in the body for years, without showing its presence [ADB, 1991] while the virus can be transmitted to unsuspecting sexpartners before the HIV carrier can discover the infection. This slow and unprecedented fear and worries among the health specialists and medical community.
