A South Asian sub-regional consultative workshop on "Combatting trafficking in children for labour exploitation" was held by the International Labour Organization (lLO) under its Intemational Programme on Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) from 12 to 14 October 1998. It was attended by participants from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The participants included representatives of the national government institution responsible for combatting sexual exploitation of children and child trafficking, the Ministry of Labour, the police, the immigration department, lawyers, NGOs active in prevention and rehabilitation work and researchers. Representatives from UNICEF, LINIFEM, UNDP, ECPAT, Save the Children Fund-UK, World Vision International (WV! and Redd Barna (RB) attended as observers. A full list of participants is attached in Annex I.
