Millennium Development Goal 8: Taking Stock Of The Global Partnership For Development
PDF File Size: 1.82 MB | Download
This report of the United Nations MDG Gap Task Force is the final report in a series that takes stock of recent achievements and gaps in the implementation of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 8. As has been reported throughout the monitoring process undertaken by the more than 30 organizations that comprise the Task Force, there have been significant positive developments pointing to an effective international effort to realize agreed targets during the MDG period, but several deficits in international cooperation for development have continuously highlighted the need for a rejuvenation of the global partnership for development. As the international community is considering the structure and scope of a post- 2015 development agenda, the final report of the MDG Gap Task Force has undertaken the responsibility of extracting lessons from its monitoring of Goal 8 that may be useful in monitoring the future global partnership for development. Over the course of the reporting experience, the Task Force has noted major gaps, not only regarding the achievement of the targets set in MDG 8, but also regarding its monitoring. Particularly serious has been the lack of quantitative time-bound targets in the five substantive areas, as well as the lack of data to track quantitative and qualitative commitments adequately and in a timely manner.
