Welcome to the newsletter of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme -Nepal. This year has been one of the most challenging years for Nepal as well as UNV. Following the devastating April Earthquake, we have mobilized both national and international Volunteers in large numbers. In response to the twin earthquakes, UNV deployed more than 80 National UN Volunteer Civil Engineers to some of the most affected districts such as Sindhupalchowk, Nuwakot and Kavre. Likewise, in continuation to pre earthquake programmes such as the Local Governance and Community Development Programme (LGCDP), UNV-Nepal has partnered with various UN agencies like UNDP, UN-OCHA,WFP, IOM, UNICEF, etc. This issue highlights UNDP and UNV’s joint Safer demolition and debris management with Cash-for-Work (CFW) project, which is felicitated by UN volunteer civil engineers.
