In 1945, in response to the devastation caused by the Second World War, the United Nations, an organization with universal appeal, was formed. With the advancement of technology and weaponry capable of unimaginable levels of destruction, a third world war would cause annihilation unprecedented. Fearful of such a scenario, the UN was conceived with the goal to prevent another war.
