With 605,254 houses destroyed and 288,255 damaged by the April and May earthquakes, more than 200 agencies responded in a large scale shelter relief operation according to the Shelter Cluster. Of the total affected households, some 563,170 households (79 per cent) in the 14 most-affected districts were provided with corrugated galvanised iron sheets or the cash equivalent by the Government of Nepal and cluster partners. Household kits and/or blankets were also provided to 389,490 households in the 14 districts. With uneven shelter assistance between districts as a result of limited operational presence of partners and logistical backlog of shelter items, significant needs remain. Lack of durable shelter is a key concern with the coming winter season. An estimated 81,000 households (400,000 people) living in high altitude areas require shelter and non-food items (NFIs).In line with cluster strategy, agencies initially prioritised remote areas for assistance; however, attention now needs to focus on Okhaldunga, Ramechhap,Makwanpur, Kavre, and Sindhuli districts where few agencies have operations.
