Highlights:
1. A 3-day workshop on The Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure (VGGT) of Land, Fisheries and Forests in the context of National Food Security (VGGT) was concluded in Kathmandu on 4 December, 2014.
2. Supports and facilitation extended by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Representation in Nepal (FAO Nepal) are intended to contribute to improvement in poverty eradication, sustainable livelihoods, social stability, housing security, rural development, environmental protection, and sustainable social and economic development.
3. The workshop brought together government officials of the fisheries, forestry and land sector and representatives of the civil society, academia, farmers and fisher folks’ organizations and forest user groups. Participants discussed how the Guidelines could be implemented in Nepal to ensure a more economically, socially and environmentally sustainable way to govern tenure of land, fisheries and forests of the country.
4. The workshop included paper presentation on the Guidelines by FAO, the Ministry of Agriculture Development and Cooperative (MoAD), the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) and the Ministry of Land Reform and Management (MoLRM) and panel discussions.
5. More than 70 representatives from the Government, Civil Society, Organizations of Farmer, Fishers and Forest Users and Academia were engaged in wide range of discussion on the issues relating to Adoption of Voluntary Guidelines on Responsible Governance of Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests.
