Health : Nepal Earthquake Cluster Brief ( August 2015 )

A total of 446 public health facilities were completely destroyed while an additional 765 health facilities or administrative structures were partially damaged by the 25 April earthquake and the subsequent aftershocks. More than three months into the response, the emergency medical needs (for immediate trauma cases) have been met by the Health Cluster led by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). About 99 per cent of the destroyed and damaged health facilities have resumed services. However, some services remain interrupted with the start of the monsoon season such as:
1) immunization programmes (in northern Village Development Committees of Gorkha, Dolakha and Rasuwa districts);
2) health service delivery in most of the northern VDCs in Dhading, Dolakha and Nuwakot districts due to access constraints;
3) three out of 16 health service delivery points in Dhading. There is a need to ensure the delivery of essential health care services for pregnant women, mothers, new-borns and children throughout the monsoon.
