Nepal: Monsoon Updates – Issue # 2 UN Resident & Humanitarian Coordinator's Office Nepal

Key highlights:
1. According to the recent information, a total of 39 people died, 18 still missing, and 7 injured, about 1752 families have been displaced and a total of 1826 have been affected. 602 houses were completely destroyed and 1204 were partially destroyed by the flood from 18 affected districts.
2. On 19 June a joint HCT meeting (chaired by Joint Secretary, MoHA and attended by the Government and UN/INGO co-leads) agreed to prioritize a quick assessment of the unmet needs in four of the more affected districts (Darchula, Kanchanpur, Kailali and Bardiya) in order to expedite support through the respective clusters. To this effect the NEOC (MoHA) sent a directive together with a customized assessment checklist to the DDRCs to said districts. MoHA also confirmed that all NGO/UN contributions should go through their respective clusters and the DDRC/MoHA needs to be notified accordingly.
3. On 20 June, the Chairman of Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi visited the flood affected area of the Far Western Region and announced financial relief of NPR 35,000 each to the families affected by floods and landslides in the FWR.
4. DDRCs Darchula sent its assessment report to the NEOC which then is forwarded to the HCT clusters for their response support. Other DDRCs are in the process of analyzing the unmet need requiring cluster support and expected to receive it by 26 June 2013.
