Priority protection concerns include ensuring non-discriminatory access to humanitarian assistance and protection services for all affected people and targeted protection responses for persons with specific needs, including women, children, person with disabilities, the elderly, ethnic minorities and marginalized communities, who are at risk of exclusion. Loss of civil documentation poses an obstacle to people’s ability to access essential services and compensation. Trafficking is a heightened risk, in particular for women and children, due to the impact of the earthquake on households’ economic situation. Women and girls face increased risk of gender-based violence (GBV), including due to overcrowded conditions in temporary shelters. Persons unable to return to their homes due to risk of natural hazards and who are living temporarily in locations that also are unsafe urgently require relocation, to be implemented in line with national and international standards.
