स्थलगत बुलेटिन सुदुर पश्चिमका 'राजी समुदाय' (अङ्क ३५, फेब्रुअरी सन् २०१२)

सबभन्दा बढी लोपोन्मुख आदिवासी समूहहरू मध्येको एक तथा आर्थिक रूपमा सबभन्दा पिछडिएका नेपालका आदिवासी समुदायहरूमा पर्ने राजी समूहको सङ्ख्या विस्तारै घट्दै गएको छ । सन् १९९१ मा सुदूर पश्चिममा राजीको जनसङ्ख्या ३,२७४ रहेकोमा सन् २००१ सम्ममा घटेर २,३९९ (कुल जनसङ्ख्याको लगभग ०.१%) पुग्यो । राजी शल्मा समाजका प्रतिनिधीबाट प्राप्त पछिल्लो तथ्याङ्क अनुसार, सन् २०१२ को जनवरीमा सुदूर पश्चिम क्षेत्रमा राजीको जनसङ्ख्या जम्मा २,२८१ रहेको छ र यो कैलालीका १० ओटा गाविसहरू तथा कञ्चनपुर जिल्लाका दुई ओटा गाविसहरूमा छरिएको छ । राजी समुदायमा कार्यरत एक गैससका अनुसार सन् २०१० मा देशभरिमा उनीहरूको कुल जनसब्ख्या ४,६४६ रहेको थियो ।
राजीहरूको मूल थलो सुर्खेत भएको विश्वास गरिन्छ, जसमध्ये अधिकांश घरधुरीहरू आज मध्यपश्चिम क्षेत्रका चुरे पहाडहरू तथा सुदूर पश्चिम क्षेत्रको तराईमा बसोबास गरिरहेका छन् । राजीहरूको सबभन्दा ठूलो जनसङ्ख्या सुर्खेत र बर्दिया जिल्लामा रहेको छ भनेत्यसपछि कैलाली र बागलुङ जिल्लामा रहेको मानिन्छ । राजीहरूभित्र पनि तीन समूहहरू छन् : पूर्वे वा अठारथर , नौकले वा नौथर तथा बँदले वा बाह्रथर र ती क्र​मशः सुर्खेत, बर्दिया र कैलाली जिल्लामा बस्दछन् । यी समूहकासदस्यहरू अरू ठाउँमा पनि छरिएर बसोवास गरेको भेटिन्छन् । राजीहरू लिपी नभएको एक भोट–बर्मेली भाषा बोल्दछन् ।
मूलतः घुमन्ते रूपमा रहेका राजीहरू माछा मारेर, जङ्गली जनावरको सिकार गरेर, मह काढेर, जडीबुटी र कन्दमूल बटुलेर अथर्वा डुङ्गा तारेर जीविका चलाउँथे । यद्यपि, परम्परागत जीवनशैलीमा आएको परिवर्तनले गर्दा ती पेसा अँगालेर अब उनीहरूका जीवन गुजारा नचल्ने भयो । त्यसकारण अधिकांशले अर्धघुमन्ते जीवनशैली अपनाएर कृषि जस्ता स्थायी प्रकृतिका पेसामा संलग्न हुन थाले भने अरू रोजगारीको खोजीमा भारततिर पस्न थाले। सिकार खेल्नमा बन्देज लाग्ने खालको अर्धघुमन्त जीवनशैली अँगाल्न थालेको अथवा खोलानालाहरू सुक्तै गएकाले माछा मार्न समेत बन्द भएकाले उनीहरूको खानपान शैलीमा प्रोटिनजन्य खानेकुरामा कमि जस्तापरिवर्तन आएका छन ।
आफ्नै परम्परागत भेषभुषा, नाचगान तथा चाडपर्वहरू, जन्म र मृत्यु सम्बन्धि संस्कारहरूमा बेग्लै खालका धार्मिक तथा परम्परागत प्रथाहरू, कुकुरहरूसित गरिने विवाह, प्रकृतिको पूजाका साथै डुङ्गा खियाउने, सिकार खेल्ने र परम्परागत डुङ्गा तथा जाल बनाउने जस्ता विशेष खालका सीपयुक्त पुख्र्यौली पेसाहरू समेतले राजीहरूको धनी संस्कृतिलाइ झल्काउँछन् ।
