1. By the end of April, the opportunity of holding an election for a new Constituent Assembly (CA) by June has largely passed.
2. During the month of April, a small number of bandhs organised by political parties and activist groups affected the operational space of signatories to the Basic Operating Guidelines (BOGs).
3. Various Tharu groups protest across Far and Mid West to end Kamlari system Various Tharu groups intensified their protest programmes following the death of Kamlari Srijana
Chaudhary (a 12 year old girl from Dang District who worked as bounded child labour in Kathmandu) during March.
4. Land seizure (both new cases and relating to seizures from during the conflict) remains an outstanding issue leading to tension in some districts of the Far and Mid Western regions.
5. Due to disruptions by CPN-Maoist and other groups, the ongoing voter registration process was halted on 1 April. Many of these protest carried on through April.
6. A two-day regional gathering of six endangered groups (Raji, Raute, Kusunda, Kuchwadhiya, Sonaha and Khuna) was held in Tikapur (Kailali District) from 26-27 April to identify common issues and strategies for these communities.
7. During the month of April, incidences of fire and lightening increased significantly, killing at least 34 (9 by fire and 25 by lightening) and injuring 99 people (16 by fire and 80 by lightening) across the country.
8. The District Livestock Service Office (DLSO) reported outbreak of avian influenza (H5N1) in Chitwan District.
9. A viral epidemic (H5N1 of Bird Flu) has been detected in five poultry farm in Bharatpur Municipality and its surrounding villages in Chitwan.
10. The Ministry of Home Affairs, jointly with Regional Administration Offices and supported by the Humanitarian.
Advisory Team (HAT) and UN Field Coordination Offices, organized disaster preparedness and response planning workshop in four development regions.
11. On 23 April, the Lutheran World Federation, Care Nepal, OXFAM, Mercy Corps and NCRS organized a joint assessment mission to four vulnerable schools in Kailali District to explore the possibility of coordinated disaster risk reduction (DRR) action. Kandra and other subsidiary rivers have been causing annual flooding in these areas.
12. The service of Team Hospital in Dadeldhura district has been discontinued since 25 April by the hospital staff.
