In an attempt to estimate the severity of the recent Nepal earthquake, we created a data model using a range of variables related to population density, housing construction materials and household dependence on LP gas and piped water. These are combined with earthquake-specific data to create a Severity Impact Estimate Index. This index aims to give early responders an estimation of where impact MAY be higher. It is intended to help guide better questions and more targeted assessments in the first few days until more accurate reports are available.
