PDF File Size: 137 KB | Download
Persons displaced by the earthquake have found shelter in Concentrated – Spontaneous and planned sites, collective centres; dispersed – temporary sheltering within villages.Displacement site locations, numbers, current cross sectoral needs and priorities are identified to inform the response, prevent further loss of lives or secondary waves of displacement. Overview of movement trends and needs across the 14 Priority districts, with an estimated 350,000 totally destroyed houses, meaning up to 350,000 internally displaced households.Concentrated sites where groups of people are living in proximity may lead to sub- standard living conditions. Where identified sites do not have adequate drainage or access roads and paths, the approaching monsoon will see living conditions deteriorate, creating risk of disease outbreak and increased protection issues. Following the earthquake the space available in many sites is also limited by rubble and debris. Camps and camp like settings are temporary solutions that should be established only as a last resort. However where the establishment of sites is required it is important to establish site management to ensure equitable access to services and protection for displaced persons living in communal settings, and advocate for durable solutions while preparing them for life after displacement. This may include Government or cluster partners supported, traditional or self-established management mechanisms.
