WHO assistance in nursing education in Nepal started in 1954, under the first WHO-assisted nursing project in Nepal (Nepal 0002). "Training of Nurses", when two internationally recruited nurse tutors arrived in Kathmandu to help to establish a programme in such a way that nurses would be prepared to practise nursing and midwifery both in institutions and in the domiciliary field.
