The purpose of the author's visit was to study the feasibility of producing freeze-dried smallpox vaccine in Nepal. The Report by the Directorate-General of Health Services on Health and Health Administration in 1969 was extremely useful in that it provided the necessary background information and a picture of the state of development of the health services. From the foregoing observations it appears that the establishment of new facilities which would be required especially for the production of smallpox vaccines in Nepal would be difficult to justify, and because of the likelihood of future technological changes it is not appropriate to plan now for the distant future.
