The writer visited Nepal from 17 to 26 December 1966 for the purpose of: (1) observing the activities of the smallpox control programme operating; (2) assisting the Government of Nepal in their planning for a smallpox eradication programme; (3) discussing with the national health authorities whether, in the context of global eradication, speedier execution and intensification of the programme outlined by a WHO consultant, in consultation with them and with their agreement, at the end of August 1966, are possible and also whether some rephrasing of the zones to be taken up for attack phase is called for.
