Press Release- Despite progress, much work remains on human rights and access to health for LGBTI people in Nepal
PDF File Size: 1.29 MB | Download
Much work remains to be done to end the stigma and discrimination faced by
the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community in Nepali society, despite some remarkable progress on human rights, access to health and legal equality, said participants at a national consultation last week in Pokhara. More than 200 participants from across the country gathered this week for the annual two-day national consultation organized by Blue Diamond Society (BDS) to discuss the barriers and challenges the LGBTI
community is facing and seek ways forward in achieving equal access to health services, employment and education. Participants attending the 27-28 August 2014 gathering included representatives from the government, National Human Rights Commission, Members of Parliament, civil society activists, LGBTI community members, UNAIDS, UNDP, and US Embassy staff. The consultation was organized with support from the Multi-Country South Asia Global Fund HIV Programme for which the United Nations Development Programme Asia-Pacific Regional Centre (UNDP APRC)is the Principal Recipient.
