Representative of the UN Secretary-General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Arrives in Nepal

The Representative of the Secretary General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons, Professor Walter Kälin arrived today to undertake a mission to Nepal at the invitation of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal from 1 3 to 23 April 2005. Through a dialogue with the Government, the civil society and the international community, as well as with those affected by displacement, the Representative aims to obtain a better understanding of the situation of internal displacement in the country and to assess the opportunities for the enhancement of the national and international protection of the human rights of the internally displaced in accordance with his mandate laid out in Commission on Human Rights resolution 2004/55.
