The Interagency Strategy for Mainstreaming Conflict Sensitivity was initiated in 2010 as part of UNDP’s Conflict Prevention Programme. In partnership with UNICEF and the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator’s Office, UNDP aims to ensure development effectiveness by applying conflict sensitivity in its programmes and policies. This initiative is coordinated by an interagency technical team composed of experts from different UN agencies and supported by UN’s Field Coordination Offices in Nepal’s five development regions. Conflict sensitivity is mainstreamed in the UN Country Team and key government counterparts with the objective of institutionalizing conflict sensitivity and integrating the Do No Harm approach in an important number of
development and humanitarian frameworks, as well as in the civil service of Nepal. It aims to maximize the positive impact of various development projects and programmes on Nepal’s peace process, while minimizing their unintended negative consequences on the current and future political, economic and social contexts.
