PDF File Size: 96 KB | Download
Nepal condemns the killings on Sunday of a local leader and a member of the armed Police force in kapilvastu and rupandehi districts, and urges the population to show tolerance and refrain from further violence.the police officer was killed in a wave of violence that was set off by the death of mohit Khan in kapilvastu. there are unconfirmed reports of other killings. the violence also included attacks on shops and the burning of dozens of vehicles and private homes. at least one mosque was also burned to the ground and there were reports that ethnic tensions were rising in the area. many people have been made homeless, and OHCHR nepal is recommending that authorities take immediate steps to provide for their humanitarian needs.the population to abide by the curfew imposed by local authorities and to respect places of worship while law enforcement agencies investigate the murder of mr.khan. Cool heads are needed violence simply undermines the genuine efforts to bring about durable peace during this transition period, said OHCHR nepal representative richard bennett.
