UNESCO together with the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters(ACORAB) and many radio stations in Nepal are observing World Radio Day on 13 February through special radio features and a national celebration. All events have the objective to raise awareness about the importance of radio. World Radio Day, established by UNESCO in 2011 and celebrated on the day when the United Nations Radio was created in 1946, aims at encouraging all those who work in radio broadcasting to provide inclusive and diversified content and information access for the benefit of all regardless of age and gender. “Nepal has a very vibrant radio landscape and radio remains the medium that reaches the widest audience. Radio helps people in Nepal to engage in discussions on topics that affect them. It can save lives during natural or human made disasters; and it provides journalists with a platform to report facts and tell their stories” says Axel Plathe, Head of the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu and UNESCO Representative to Nepal.
