On the occasion of the International Day for Tolerance, the UNESCO Office in Kathmandu, in close cooperation with the National Muslim Commission and the Nepal Chapter South Asia Coordinating Council of the International Association for Religious Freedom, is hosting an educational exhibition “Tolerance, Understanding, Coexistence. Oman’s Message of Islam”The exhibition will be launched on 12 November 2014 at 4.30 pm at the Patan Museum in Lalitpur, and continue until 17 November. The exhibition is an international initiative of Oman’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Through sharing Oman’s experience of religious diversity and over 3000 years of rich history of intercultural exchange,it aims at promoting interfaith dialogue, mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence. The message is at the very core of the 2010 International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures for which the UN General Assembly proclaimed and designated UNESCO to play a leading role, capitalizing on the Organization’s experience of over 60 years to advance
the mutual knowledge and understanding of peoples. The day is an opportunity to renew our commitment for quality education to combat ignorance and prejudice which are at the roots of discrimination and racism; protection of cultural heritage and diversity for building bridges for dialogue; promotion of freedom of expression to allow all to speak out and be heard; and harnessing the power of science to share the benefits of progress with all societies, to help people not just to live together but
prosper together.
