The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programmer is the United Nations organization contributing to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges and can transform the pace and nature of development.Volunteerism benefit is both society at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity and reciprocity
among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation.In 2012, more than 6800 qualified and experienced women and men of 150 nationalities served as UN Volunteers in 127 countries. They serve within communities to advance progress towards the Millennium Development Goals and post 2015 objectives, including poverty eradication, democratic governance and crisis prevention and recovery. Our volunteers work in United Nations peacekeeping missions, in the filed, and provide essential services, including to the health sector.
