In November 2006, the NCASC led a review of the National STI Programme in Nepal. Jointly conducted by national and international experts from the NCASC, WHO, UNAIDS, FHI, USAID and IOM, the review assessed the current status of STIs and STI services. Several issues were highlighted regarding political commitment, resource allocation, planning, surveillance and coordination between the different levels and providers of STI services. As a result of the review, a plan of action was developed for strengthening STI programme management, availability and capacity of facilities to provide quality STI services, accessibility and integration of STI services, and STI surveillance, reporting and monitoring.Special recognition is extended to all those who cooperated on central, regional, district and local levels, granted access to field teams, participated in interviews and contributed their idea and recommendations. The District Public Health Offices, hospitals, clinics and a large number of agencies, programmes and NGOs which provided guidance and valuable insights to this review are listed in Annex. Additionally, Integrated Bio-behavioural Surveys conducted by New Era, SACTS and FHI/Nepal, as well as other studies, provided information essential for a better understanding of STI prevalence and risk behaviours
among MARP in selected areas of the country.
