For UNV Nepal the year 2010 ended on an active and committed note with hundreds of volunteers and stakeholders joining hands to celebrate
International Volunteer Day on 5th December, to advocate and promote
Volunteerism for Development (V4D). This was a very important day for
volunteerism in Nepal, since on this occasion the Deputy Executive Officer of UNV, Ms. Naheed Haque, launched the campaign for the 10th Anniversary of
the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10) 2011 for the Asian Region. At the
same time, the establishment of a National Steering Committee for
Volunteerism in Nepal (NSCVN) was announced by the Vice Chair of the
National Planning Commission (NPC), Dr. Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, and
hopefully this committee will be an effective platform for new voluntary initiatives in the years to come. We have already organized number of activities with different stakeholders as it will also appear from this newsletter. We hope that the newsletter will give an impression of the range and scope of the UNV programme in Nepal, and you are of course always welcome to contact the UNV Country Office for more information.
